PLAR – Prior Learning
Assessment and Recognition

YOU’RE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK!

You could earn your Grade 12 Diploma in less than a year through PLAR – Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.

PLAR is a process used to evaluate learning received outside the education system. With PLAR you can fast track your Grade 9 and 10 credits. Motivated students are able to complete Grades 9 and 10 within a 2 month time frame.

In addition, PLAR allows you to earn up to 10 equivalent credits from your work and life experience – get learning outside of school recognized for Grade 11 and 12 credits.

THE PLAR PROGRAM IS FOR YOU IF...

and, if you have a lot of work and life experience you can move ahead even faster.

HOW IT WORKS

In order to offer the fastest possible service, your course work, assessment documentation and other student data is transmitted electronically (scanned & emailed) from your local adult education site to Lakehead Adult Education Centre for marking and processing.

Information systems are in place between the two school boards to promote student-teacher interaction. Students can use a computer or the toll-free help line to access their subject teacher from the local classroom or at home.

At the time of registration, all students are assigned an email account to use if they are comfortable with this technology. Some course materials are also available in e-version and can be completed electronically.
