Success Stories

 

Roger

Roger is a single father who was on Ontario Works. When Roger came to the school he had 4.5 credits on his transcript. Less than two years later Roger successfully graduated with his Ontario Secondary School Diploma after earning 20.5 credits through the PLAR process and by completing 5 credits through course work. Roger is currently looking for full-time employment and is considering a college program in the future.

Erica

Erica is a 24 year old student who dropped out of high school when she was 16. Erica returned to adult education in 2008 and has earned 13 credits through the PLAR process and is currently completing the last of the 7 credits she needs to graduate. Erica has been accepted into the Medical Laboratory Assistant program at the college and plans to graduate June 2009.

Steve

Steve, a 33 year old out of work Forestry worker, came to LAEC with 6 credits on his transcript. Through the PLAR process he was able to earn 20 credits and he successfully completed the last 4 credits he needed to graduate in less than a year. Steve is currently in the Child and Youth Worker program and is looking forward to getting a job in his field after he graduates college.

Marilyn

Marilyn left school after Gr.8 to help support her family. After unsuccessfully working on courses over the years, Marilyn re-located to Thunder Bay where she earned all her Gr 9 and 10 credits through the PLAR process while gaining the confidence to complete the senior credits required to graduate. In less than 18 months, Marilyn graduated and enrolled in the college in the native child and family services program. With the success she has achieved to date, she plans to go on in 2010 to enrol in an addiction counselling program.
